Candy in Nørregade

Dear Reader,

You have searched for Nørregade Bolcher – and I completely understand if you are confused.

– Where is the blue logo?
– Isn’t your slogan “Bliv glad i munden” (“Get happy in the mouth”)?
– Where are the liquorice owls and chewy moons?

Unfortunately, you won’t find them on this page, as we do not produce or sell the blue Nørregade Bolcher. However, we do make handmade candies in Nørregade – and have been doing so since 1891.

For many years, there has been confusion between Sømods Bolcher and Nørregade Bolcher. This became especially apparent in 2017 following a nationwide TV campaign on TV2 featuring the slogan “Bliv glad i munden.” Since then, we receive inquiries several times a month from people trying to reach Nørregade Bolcher.

To help clarify the distinction, we have created this page to assist you in finding answers to frequently asked questions about Nørregade Bolcher.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us via email at bolcher@soemod.dk or by phone at +45 33 12 60 46.

Sweet regards,
Camilla Søemod

What is the company’s history?

Sømods Bolcher is built on a long tradition that has existed since 1891, with a focus on ingredients. L.P. Hansen started the business at Nørregade 49 and ran it for several years. In 1922, the factory was given its well-known name, Sømods, after the family takeover.

In 1934, the building was demolished, and the factory moved across the street to Nørregade 36, where it is still located today. In 1991, Sømods Bolcher was awarded the title of Purveyor to the Royal Danish Court—to this day, we continue to supply the Danish Royal Family.

In 1985, Michael Spangsberg took over a small candy factory in Næstved, which produced Althea bolsjer and Schweizerdrops. This likely sparked his interest in boiled sweets, leading him to create BonBon. In 2008, he founded Spangsberg Chokolade, which he is best known for today.

Michael Spangsberg acquired Nørregade Bolcher in 2010 and remains the director and owner of the company. Unfortunately, we have been unable to find information on the original founder of Nørregade Bolcher.

Who owns the company?

The Sømod family has owned and operated Sømods Bolcher since 1922 from Nørregade in Copenhagen. Before the family took over, the factory was run by Anders Christian Olsen (a childhood friend of Martin Sømod) and L.P. Hansen.

Today, Michael Sømod is the director, and together with his two children, he is preparing for the future succession of the company.

Michael Spangsberg acquired Nørregade Bolcher in 2010, but the company has existed since 1924 and has been based in several locations around Zealand.
