A Fresh Taste of Ripe Pears \u2013 A Childhood Favourite<\/h2>\n

Silkeorme have a deliciously tangy pear flavour. We have carefully selected a natural pear flavouring that creates the perfect balance between sweetness and freshness.<\/p>\n

A ripe pear has a juicy, aromatic taste, and that is exactly the experience we aim to capture in our handmade candies. The combination of pearl sugar, natural pear extract and a touch of tartaric acid creates a candy with a smooth, fresh flavour that lasts.<\/p>\n

Their generous size also means the flavour develops slowly, which is why Silkeorme have remained a favourite for generations.<\/p>\n

The Pear \u2013 A Fruit with Thousands of Years of History<\/h2>\n

Pears have been cultivated for more than 5,000 years and have long been one of Europe’s favourite fruits. The first cultivated pears are believed to have originated in regions around South-Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, where they grew wild long before finding their way into gardens and orchards.<\/p>\n

As pears ripen, they develop their characteristic sweet and aromatic flavour. This natural freshness has made pears a popular ingredient in desserts, drinks and, of course, candies.<\/p>\n

At S\u00f8mods Bolcher, pear candies made with natural flavour have been a classic for many years, and Silkworms remain one of our most recognisable varieties.<\/p>\n

How We Make Our Silkworms<\/h2>\n

All of our candies begin with the same base of 20 kg of pure pearl sugar, which is boiled to almost 180\u00b0C. We use neither glucose syrup nor artificial sweeteners\u2014only pure ingredients and traditional methods.<\/p>\n

The hot sugar mass is divided into several portions. One is coloured yellow with natural turmeric, another red with carmine, a small portion green with chlorophyll, while the remainder keeps its natural colour.<\/p>\n

Natural pear extract and a little tartaric acid are added to the yellow portion. The tartaric acid provides a refreshing tang that perfectly balances the natural sweetness of the sugar.<\/p>\n

The sugar mass is then pulled on the traditional candy hook. During this process, air is worked into the sugar, making the colours lighter and the flavour smoother.<\/p>\n

The different coloured sugar masses are then assembled layer by layer. The small red and green sugar strands are used as decorative stripes before the candy is shaped.<\/p>\n

Silkworms gain their distinctive appearance in an original hand press dating back to the 19th century. By combining pressing and rolling, we create the long, ridged candies that gave Silkworms their name.<\/p>\n

Once the candies have cooled, they are carefully packed and are ready to delight both new and lifelong candy lovers.<\/p>\n
